Tastebuds Records was established in 1999 by Janice-Marie Johnson.  She created the label to offer a platform for her music and the music of up-and-coming artists to thrive worldwide.

The first release on Tastebuds Records was Janice-Marie’s, Hiatus of the Heart CD (8 songs total). This Hiatus of the Heart CD was Janice-Marie’s first release since the One Taste of Honey LP in 1984.  

With the Hiatus of the Heart CD, Janice-Marie had just begun to explore her Native American Heritage. A fan favorite, “Let Love Rain Down” is a tribute to her Stockbridge-Munsee ancestry and tribal roots in Wisconsin.  The Hiatus of the Heart CD themes were filtered through a tropical blend of Island, Reggae, Pop, Native Pop, and R&B strains. Billboard expressed the following review of Janice-Marie’s, Hiatus of the Heart CD… “the wait has been worth it. This set of flavored R&B/pop heralds’ mix of dance, mid-tempo tunes and ballads that wrap themes of life and love around African and Caribbean rhythms, as well as rock, reggae and jazz.” It is filled with heartfelt songs about life, love, and dance.  As their second release, Tastebuds Records released an updated version of the Hiatus of the Heart CD containing 4 additional songs (12 songs total) in 2000. This 12-song Hiatus of the Heart CD was distributed by Lightyear Entertainment.

Until the Eagle Falls, an EP with an embedded music video, was the third Tastebuds Records release.  Janice-Marie returned to the pop music world in the new millennium with deeper inspiration than ever before... an inspiration seeded in her Native American roots. “Until the Eagle Falls” was embraced by the Native American community.  

The award-winning “Until The Eagle Falls” song and music video garnered Janice-Marie with a 2002 Native American Music Award for “Best Producer” along with additional awards like the Indian Summer Festival “Award of Excellence” and their “Award of Distinction.”  In 2008, Janice-Marie was inducted into the Native American Music Awards “Hall of Fame.”

The One Taste of Honey LP (Janice-Marie’s first solo LP release on the Capitol Records label) will soon be available through Tastebuds Records.  Also available are the fan favorite A Taste of Honey re-records of their mega hits, “Boogie Oogie Oogie” and “Sukiyaki.”

  We are so excited about the upcoming new music from A Taste of Honey. The first single, “Get Up!” is scheduled for release soon. “Get Up!” is about celebrating our lives right here and right now. Don’t wait, “Get Up!” The rhythms of this song are pulsating and inviting. They carry a fresh, yet familiar, A Taste of Honey vibe. To top it off, the essence of the song’s texture is ripened with Janice-Marie's compelling vocal styling. Celebrate life with A Taste of Honey’s, “Get Up!”

              Produced by Lance Tolbert, of Infinite O2 Enterprises, LLC, the production of “Get Up!” is not only captivating and commanding, the clarity and fidelity of the production will fascinate your senses, causing you to replay the song over and over again, each time picking up nuances not realized the first and second times around. 

  2024 has already proven to be an exciting year for Tastebuds Records with the release of the new A Taste of Honey single, “Get Up!”  But there’s more. In celebration of Tastebuds Records’ 25th Anniversary, Tastebuds Records is also releasing a Deluxe EP featuring new music, some Janice-Marie favorites, and some of your favorite classic A Taste of Honey hits. The complete EP will be available in the Fall of 2024.
